General Description:
The REMStar M Series from Respironics is one of the newest lines of CPAP/BiPAP machines available. Respironics completely redesigned their sleep therapy system to provide a smaller and sleeker machine, while still having all of the features sleep patients desire. These features include C-Flex, A-Flex, and Smartcard data recording.
C-Flex is a technology that enables the machine to decrease the pressure in the mask when the machine detects that a patient is exhaling. When the machine detects that the patient has started inhaling again, it will quickly ramp back up to the set pressure for therapy.
A-Flex is only available on Auto Titrating machines and works in very much the same way as C-Flex, but operates on both exhale and inhale. A-Flex attempts to mimic the natural breathing cycle and speeds of inhale and exhale. Auto Titration is the ability of a machine to detect the needed pressure level that a patient needs at any specific moment. This luxury is often used during sleep tests to take an average pressure level from adjustments made by the machine during the night.
Auto machines come standard with Smartcard technology that allows the machine to record data throughout the night including pressure levels, AHI, Compliance, and alerts. Smartcard technology is also available on the Plus, Pro, and the BiPAP Auto. Your Doctor can read and interpret the data stored on the card by the machine and better recommend continued therapy needs.
Weighing in at only 2.2lbs, and measuring just 7.5in. x 5.0in. x 3.12in., the M Series machines are very portable and have accessory items that can connect the small CPAP to external batteries. The Basic REMStar is a starter machine. Although fully functional with pressure ranges from 4cm-20cm/h20, this little machine does not have C-Flex, cannot use a Smartcard for data recording, and has limited Ramp time (Set at 20min. only) selections. This machine also has manual attitude adjustments of low, medium, or high. |

The REMStar Plus is the most popular in the M Series line. Smartcard is optional, but available. Smartcard records 9 months of data at 3 usage sessions per day: Date/time, hours of use, usage patterns, FOSQ. Altitude adjustment is manual. C-Flex is standard. Ramp time is adjustable from 0-45 min.

The REMStar Pro is the power house for data collection. Having the same properties as the REMStar Plus, the Pro can record data for 6 months at 3 usage sessions per day with 7 days of in-depth analysis. The Smartcard will record: Date/time, hours of use, usage patterns, AHI, leak, snore, and FOSQ. The Pro also has automatic altitude adjustment. |
