General Description:
All CPAP and BiPAP machines can be used with humidification. The routine use of heated humidity has had a major impact on patient comfort and success. Heated humidity helps the CPAP patient in many ways. Sinus drying and irritation is reduced by making sure that the airflow has good moisture content. Dry irritated sinuses can be very painful and may result in increased nocturnal or daytime sinus drainage or post nasal drip. Headache can also be a symptom of inadequate humidity. Dry nasal passages and sinuses may become irritated and swollen which increases resistance to airflow. This increased resistance can lower the effectiveness of CPAP pressure and cause a return of symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea.
